Thunder overseas opener, Alex Hales, scored a fantastic 72 off 55 while 3 of his batting partners were run-out, coincidence?
Scorchers dominate low scoring battle in Sydney

Thunder drop to joint-bottom - needing 3/3 wins to end the season for small chance of the finals!
News Insights
- Top 5 run scorers in the match were all English!
- Perth almost certain for finals with win today
- Thunder will need to win their last 3 matches for a small chance of finals
- Agar records second most economical figures in BBL history (four-over spell)
Awesome Ashton
Ashton Agar, Perth’s frontline spinner today, delivered the second most economical set of four overs in BBL history. Conditions were perfect for the left-armer with plenty of right-handers to bowl at. He saw his four overs go for just 6 runs, picking up 2 wickets in the process! He is tied with Adam Milne who took 1-6 and he sits just behind Mitchell Johnson who took 3-3 in 2017.
‘What is with the running’
Harsha Bhogle was baffled with the running, on commentary, as Thunder had 3 batsmen dismissed via run-outs. Perth opening batsman, Sam Whiteman, said on the player mic ‘they keep trying to run each other out’ just before Ollie Davies was given out. This may have proved costly to Thunder as their total of 137 seemed too little for their bowling attack to defend.
Ladder Standings
Perth sit second on the ladder, they are now a win away from confirming their place in the finals yet again. Perth are firm favourites in the market to lift another Big Bash title. It will be important for them to gain home advantage in the final if they were to get there. Sydney Thunder are almost mathematically out, they will be looking at a miracle to win their last 3 games with teams around them failing to win.
