Round 6 of the NRL season saw a lot of one-sided games, but this weekend looks set to be a lot closer with six of the eight games boasting single-figure betting lines. It kicks off when the Sea Eagles host the Dragons on Thursday night, while later in the round the Bulldogs take on the Rabbitohs, the Roosters host the Panthers and the Knights take on the Sharks. Below, we have previewed all eight games set to take place over the course of Round 7.

Manly Sea Eagles vs St. George Illawarra Dragons
A six-point loss to the Sharks in Cronulla looks, on paper, like a gallant effort from the Sea Eagles, but the scoreboard realistically flattered them last Saturday. They conceded the first three tries of the game and scored one in the dying minutes to tighten things, but they always looked destined for their second loss in a row. But after a tough fortnight, they return home to take on the Dragons in a game they will be expecting to win this Thursday night.
The Dragons, however, are not exactly the easy beats some expected them to be this year. They rebounded strongly from a disappointing loss to the Eels a fortnight ago to beat the Titans by 22 points last weekend, giving them a hard-earned second win of the year. They have been competitive in every game this season and should be again in this one, but on their home turf the Sea Eagles might just be a little bit too strong.

Canterbury Bulldogs vs South Sydney Rabbitohs
The Bulldogs’ brilliant start to the season continued in their last outing as they notched up their fifth win in as many games, remaining the only undefeated team in the league and square on top of the ladder. They were fantastic against the Knights, refusing to give an inch as they kept their opposition to 0 points, taking the grand total of their last three opponents to a measly 14 points. They have hardly looked like being beaten, and though the Rabbitohs are a much better side this season than last, the home team in this one will be widely expected to take their record to 6-0.
The Bunnies have had a solid start to the season with Wayne Bennett back at the helm, with a number of close wins helping them to a 4-1 record after five games. But they were unable to continue their winning ways against the Cowboys last weekend, with a really poor ten minutes of defence ultimately costing them in an eight-point loss. They look like a solid team this season and should be in the finals mix, but the Bulldogs are increasingly looking like genuine Premiership contenders, and at Accor Stadium should be able to notch up another win.
Predicted Squads
Canterbury Bulldogs: 1. Connor Tracey 2. Jacob Kiraz 3. Bronson Xerri 4. Stephen Crichton 5. Marcelo Montoya 6. Matt Burton 7. Toby Sexton 8. Max King 9. Reed Mahoney 10. Daniel Suluka-Fifita 11. South Sydney Rabbitohs: 1. Jye Gray 2. Campbell Graham 3. Euan Aitken 4. Jack Wighton 5. Isaiah Tass 6. Latrell Mitchell 7. Cody Walker 8. Sean Keppie 9. Peter Mamouzelos 10. Tevita Tatola 11. Josh Schuster
Dolphins vs Melbourne Storm
After four losses in their first four games the Dolphins found themselves ahead of only the Eels on the NRL ladder and the second-favourite to win the Wooden Spoon, but haven’t they turned things around over the past fortnight? After picking up their first win of the season in emphatic fashion against the Titans, they backed that up with an 18-point win over the struggling Panthers, giving them their second win of the season and some momentum that they will need to hold on to if they are to give the Storm any sort of a shake this weekend.
The Premiership favourites are absolutely rolling six weeks into the season. A surprise 14-8 loss to the Dragons is their only blemish, but since then they have walloped first the Sea Eagles then the Warriors by 24 and 28 points respectively, putting up over 40 points in both of those performances. The Dolphins’ newfound form means that they should be able to keep the scoreboard respectable in this one, but the Storm are looking ominous at the moment. It would be hard to tip against them regardless of who they were playing, and despite the Dolphins’ positive last couple of weeks this should be another comfortable victory for the visitors.
Predicted Squads
Dolphins: 1. Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow 2. Jamayne Isaako 3. Jake Averillo 4. Herbie Farnworth 5. Jack Bostock 6. Kodi Nikorima 7. Isaiya Katoa 8. Daniel Saifiti 9. Jeremy Marshall-King 10. Felise Kaufusi 11. Kulikefu Finefeuiaki 12. Tom Gilbert 13. Max Plath 14. Kurt Donoghoe 15. Mark Nicholls 16. Connelly Lemuelu 17. Josh Kerr 18. Ray Stone 19. Sean O'Sullivan 20. Kenny Bromwich 21. Francis Molo 22. Junior Tupou
Melbourne Storm: 1. Ryan Papenhuyzen 2. Sua Fa'alogo 3. Jack Howarth 4. Grant Anderson 5. Xavier Coates 6. Cameron Munster 7. Jahrome Hughes 8. Stefano Utoikamanu 9. Harry Grant 10. Josh King 11. Shawn Blore 12. Eli Katoa 13. Trent Loiero 14. Tyran Wishart 15. Alec MacDonald 16. Tui Kamikamica 17. Bronson Garlick 18. Joe Chan 19. Kane Bradley 20. Keagan Russell-Smith 21. Stanley Huen 22. Lazarus Vaalepu
- The Roosters might have got the better of the Panthers earlier this season, but prior to that Penrith had won a huge ten games in a row, often by big margins, against Sydney.
- The Eels’ five defeats so far this season have been by an average of just under 25 points.
- The Knights have scored just two tries in the past three weeks, notching up a grand total of ten points in that time.

New Zealand Warriors vs Brisbane Broncos
It was the Warriors who were on the receiving end of the Storm’s wrath last weekend, and a tough fortnight continues as they take on the Broncos this Saturday. They had picked up three consecutive wins prior to that clash, but on the road against the best team in the business they were no match and ultimately went down by 28 points. They’ll be pleased to be returning home to New Zealand this weekend, where they are 2-0 this season, but won’t have things their own way by any means.
The Broncos were disappointing against the Roosters last weekend, but prior to that they too had won three games on the trot. But they haven’t exactly been against impressive opposition, and while the Warriors are far from the best team in the league this might be the toughest matchup the Broncos have faced all season. This should be an intriguing game and could very easily go down to the wire, but while the Broncos are probably the better team, on their home turf the Warriors can secure a tight upset win.
Predicted Squads
New Zealand Warriors: 1. Taine Tuaupiki 2. Edward Kosi 3. Kurt Capewell 4. Ali Leiataua 5. Adam Pompey 6. Chanel Harris-Tavita 7. Luke Metcalf 8. Jackson Ford 9. Wayde Egan 10. Mitch Barnett 11. Leka Halasima 12. Marata Niukore 13. Erin Clark 14. Bunty Afoa 15. Jacob Laban 16. Demitric Vaimauga 17. Te Maire Martin 18. Tanah Boyd 20. Tanner Stowers-Smith 21. Samuel Healey 22. Freddy Lussick 23. Morgan Harper
Brisbane Broncos: 1. Reece Walsh 2. Selwyn Cobbo 3. Kotoni Staggs 4. Gehamat Shibasaki 5. Jesse Arthars 6. Ben Hunt 7. Adam Reynolds 8. Patrick Carrigan 9. Cory Paix 10. Payne Haas 11. Jaiyden Hunt 12. Jordan Riki 13. Kobe Hetherington 14. Billy Walters 15. Corey Jensen 16. Xavier Willison 17. Tyson Smoothy 18. Deine Mariner 19. Martin Taupau 20. Jock Madden 21. Ben Te Kura 22. Sydney Roosters vs Penrith Panthers
For the last few years this would have been a prime-time matchup, but the mighty appear to have fallen. Certainly the Roosters were expected to after the mass exodus in the off-season, and that appeared to be the case after four losses in their first five games (the solitary win, incidentally, coming against the Panthers). They played really well last week though, knocking off the Broncos by ten points in Brisbane, but it is still hard to imagine them getting back into the mix for the top eight.
The Panthers also lost a couple of key players in the off-season but were nonetheless expected to compete for an incredible fifth flag in a row. Five consecutive losses after a first round win, however, might have put paid to that idea. There is, of course, still a long way to go and it’s hard to ever rule this team out, but they have not been good over the past few weeks and an 18-point defeat at the hands of the Dolphins last weekend was probably their worst performance yet. Given their current form it’s hard to back this team at the moment, but it feels inevitable that they will, at some point, turn things around. Perhaps this could be the weekend. It’s hard to know what to expect from either of these teams, but the Panthers are the better outfit and can finally pick up a much-needed win.
Predicted Squads
Sydney Roosters: 1. James Tedesco 2. Daniel Tupou 3. Mark Nawaqanitawase 4. Robert Toia 5. Dom Young 6. Sandon Smith 7. Hugo Savala 8. Nat Butcher 9. Connor Watson 10. Naufahu Whyte 11. Angus Crichton 12. Siua Wong 13. Victor Radley 14. Zach Dockar-Clay 15. Salesi Foketi 16. Blake Steep 17. Spencer Leniu 18. Ethan King 19. Makahesi Makatoa 20. Chad Townsend 21. Tom Rodwell 22. Taylor Losalu
Penrith Panthers: 1. Dylan Edwards 2. Paul Alamoti 3. Luke Garner 4. Casey McLean 5. Tom Jenkins 6. Blaize Talagi 7. Nathan Cleary 8. Moses Leota 9. Mitch Kenny 10. Lindsay Smith 11. Scott Sorensen 12. Liam Martin 13. Isaah Yeo 14. Brad Schneider 15. Isaiah Papali'i 16. Liam Henry 17. Izack Tago 18. Daine Laurie 19. Luron Patea 20. Mavrik Geyer 21. Luke Sommerton 22. Jack Cole
Gold Coast Titans vs Canberra Raiders
The Titans have been erratic to say the least to start the season. A 2-3 record doesn’t do justice to the roller coaster ride that has been their first few weeks, with every game being either won or lost by at least 16 points. Unfortunately, over the last couple of weeks they have been on the wrong end of those results, going down by 26 points to the Dolphins a fortnight ago and then 22 points to the Dragons last week.
The Raiders, meanwhile, have had a really positive last fortnight, beating the Sharks by four points in an impressive display before absolutely pumping the Eels to the tune of 38 points last weekend. After entering the season as Wooden Spoon favourites, they appear capable of challenging for a spot in the top eight, and another win to take their record to 5-2 this weekend would put them in a great position to do just that. It’s a little hard to know what to expect from the Titans – at their best they are certainly capable of beating the Raiders, particularly at home, but who knows if they’ll bring that. They certainly haven’t the past couple of weeks, but it would be no great surprise to see them return to some form and pick up a win at home in this one.
Predicted Squads
Gold Coast Titans: 1. Jaylan de Groot 2. Tony Francis 3. Brian Kelly 4. Phillip Sami 5. Jojo Fifita 6. AJ Brimson 7. Jayden Campbell 8. Mo Fotuaika 9. Sam Verrills 10. Reagan Campbell-Gillard 11. David Fifita 12. Beau Fermor 13. Tino Fa'asuamaleaui 14. Chris Randall 15. Klese Haas 16. Jaimin Jolliffe 17. Iszac Fa'asuamaleaui 18. Arama Hau 19. Allan Fitzgibbon 20. Josiah Pahulu 21. Tom Weaver 22. Jacob Alick-Wiencke
Canberra Raiders: 1. Kaeo Weekes 2. Savelio Tamale 3. Matthew Timoko 4. Seb Kris 5. Xavier Savage 6. Ethan Strange 7. Jamal Fogarty 8. Corey Horsburgh 9. Tom Starling 10. Joe Tapine 11. Hudson Young 12. Matty Nicholson 13. Morgan Smithies 14. Owen Pattie 15. Zac Hosking 16. Josh Papali'i 17. Ata Mariota 18. Pasami Saulo 19. Simi Sasagi 20. Jed Stuart 21. Trey Mooney 22. Danny Levi
Newcastle Knights vs Cronulla Sharks
It has been a very grim few weeks for the Newcastle Knights. After starting the season strongly with two consecutive wins, they have scored a measly ten points in their last three games while conceding at least 20 in each of them. They haven’t exactly been against dominant opposition either, with each of the Tigers and the Titans included among the teams that have beaten them during that period. They have fallen to 12th as a result, and after what they’ve dished up of late it’s hard to imagine them doing anything but falling further.
The Sharks, meanwhile, bounced back from a couple of defeats in a row with a good win over the Sea Eagles last weekend which was probably better than the six-point final margin would suggest. They have had a topsy turvy start to the season with three wins and three losses, but while they do not look like a genuine Premiership threat they also look a hell of a lot better than the Knights have of late. Newcastle will surely begin to find the scoreboard at some point, but against a decent team it is impossible to back them to win this one, even on their home turf. After looking solid against superior opposition last weekend, the Sharks should be able to make it two wins in two games this Sunday.

Wests Tigers vs Parramatta Eels
These two found themselves embroiled in a tight battle for last place in 2024, but while the Eels are likely to again be right down the bottom of the ladder this year, the Tigers are on the up – finally. They bounced back from a couple of consecutive losses with a really professional-looking performance against the Knights last weekend, restricting their opponents to just four points en route to a 16-point win to take their record to 3-3. Having won 4, 4 and 6 games in the last three years, they look set to go well past those numbers this year.
In contrast, the Eels are not going anywhere fast. They’ve had a dreadful start to the season, and after picking up their first win a fortnight ago by a point, they returned to their worst form with a woeful display against the Raiders last weekend. They conceded 50 points in that effort, ultimately going down by 38 points to further chain them to the bottom of the ladder. Twelve months ago these two teams would have been hard to separate, but the Tigers are on the march and are in a great position to take their win/loss record into the positive. Expect a comfortable win for the home side to conclude Round 7.
