Kyrgios stays in the commentary booth
Nick Kyrgios made his commentary debut back in November for the ATP Nitto finals with the Tennis Channel. In January, he stepped up the big leagues, commentating on the Australian Open for ESPN. He’s now set to commentate on the 2024 Wimbledon tournament.
If he does commentate Wimbledon, Kyrgios will have commentated on three times as many tournaments than professional matches he has played in since taking his first break from the sport in October 2022.
The 29-year-old Aussie’s tennis career has been derailed by knee and wrist injuries as well as mental health issues. His first major absence started when he withdrew from a Japan Open quarterfinal match in October 2022 with a knee injury. Kyrgios’ next match was an exhibition match against Novak Djokovic in Saudi Arabia in December 2022. He last played a professional match in June 2023 against China’s Wu Yibing at the Stuttgart Open in Germany.
Kyrgios has not set a date for his return to tennis. Rumours strongly linked him to a return at the 2024 Australian Open. He ruled himself out of that tournament a month before it started, citing injury concerns.

While Kyrgios is a big name here in Australia, he’s far from the only star who will be commentating on the 2024 Wimbledon tournament in London for the BBC. Fellow Aussie Ashleigh Barty and others have joined BBC’s commentary team.
According to The Times, John McEnroe, Martina Navratilova, Billie Jean King, Pat Cash, Tim Henman, Tracy Austin, Annabel Croft and Johanna Konta are just some of the other tennis greats who will commentate Wimbledon 2024 along with Kyrgios for the BBC.
Kyrgios hints at sport change
Kyrgios has not confirmed that he will be taking part in this year’s Wimbledon tournament. However, he did reveal that he’s considering taking up another sport once his tennis career is over.
In an Instagram Q&A, Kyrgios revealed that he would take up boxing when his career is over.
“Yeah I would, at the end of my tennis career. There are a couple of people I’d call out.” Kyrgios said, answering a question about whether he would ever become a boxer.
When asked who he would like to call out, the 29-year-old rubbished rumours about his beef with Piers Morgan.
“Nah, we are friends now!” Kyrgios said of the television personality.
Whether it’s boxing, tennis, or commentary Kyrgios is always sure to entertain. You’ll be able to hear him next when Wimbledon 2024 kicks off on July 1, 2024. Check back in then for all the best tennis betting tips and more from BettingTop10.
