Best Multibet Tips of the Weekend | March 1st

It is a huge day in the Randwick calendar on Saturday afternoon with six group races on the card. They include a pair of Group 1 races which should generate plenty of interest on the betting sites. We have found our top three picks on the card for our multibet.

Randwick R6 #1 - Amelia’s Jewel $2.40

A frustrating type who has not saluted for a while but this is a gilt-edged opportunity for her to get her head back in front. She was runner-up in the Empire Rose in the spring so it is not like she was running poorly, competing in a Group 2 here. She has three wins and two seconds in five runs at this level so far in her career. Fresh has been a good time to catch her, with four wins and two second-place runs in six starts when she has been first-up. A big run is expected here.

Randwick R7 #1 - Lady Shenandoah $1.60

Had a good number of these rivals behind when she won the Lightfinger last time out. That was over 1200m at this track, getting on top late to win with a little more in her back pocket than the official winning margin suggests. She is out to 1400m for the first time in her career here, a move that should produce better results from her. Has just had five races in total in her life so there should also just be natural progression to come.

Randwick R8 #8 - Via Sistina $1.85

It was a little bit disappointing to see her turned over in the Apollo where Kerrin McEvoy was outridden by Jason Collett on the winner, Fangirl. That filly is in opposition again here but it is hard to think that she is a better mare than the selection given what Via Sistina produced during her spring prep. Perhaps she was in need of the run and with James McDonald now back in the saddle, there should be a better performance coming now.

Stats and Insights

  • Randwick is a big, fair, galloping track where horses can win both from the front and from behind.
  • James McDonald is 13/53 (25%) at Randwick so far this season, he is in the saddle on all three of our tips.
  • There is a small advantage to inside barriers at Randwick but especially over longer distances like 2000m which starts on a long, sweeping curve.
  • No trainer has had more winners in the last year at Randwick than Chris Waller who will look to add to that with Via Sistina.

The horse racing bookmakers should do plenty of business across Saturday’s Randwick card. Trade is always strong when even the casual fan recognises names on the card and there are plenty of those across the 10 races during the afternoon.
