Brentford vs. Brighton
Gtech Community Stadium, 12:00 AM, Sunday, April 20
Brighton shot up the table before the March international break with an impressive run of seven matches unbeaten. Since then, the Seagulls have crashed back down to earth, and hard. Fabian Hurzeler’s side are on a five-match winless run.
Brentford, meanwhile, have won just one of their last six matches. They have not won at home since beating Newcastle 4-2 in November. Despite this poor form, the betting sites have the Bees as favourites for this one. We’re not so sure, though.
Brighton, while winless recently, have overperformed as an away team this season. They have the seventh-best away record in the EPL this season and only Liverpool and Bournemouth have scored more away goals. However, Brighton have also conceded the fifth-most goals away from home.
We’re going for a draw here, but it’s probably safer to bet on goals in this one. 12 of the Seagulls’ 16 EPL away matches this season have had more than 2.5 goals.
Brentford vs. Brighton Prediction: 2-2
Predicted Lineups
Brentford: Flekken; Ajer, Collins, van den Berg, Lewis-Potter; Norgaard, Janelt; Mbeumo, Damsgaard, Schade; Wissa
Brighton: Verbruggen; Hinshelwood, Van Hecke, Dunk; Estupinan; Baleba, Gomez; Minteh, Ayari, Mitoma; Welbeck
Crystal Palace vs. Bournemouth
Selhurst Park, 12:00 AM, Sunday, April 20
We picked Crystal Palace to upset Manchester City last weekend. After taking a 2-0 lead, they let us down and lost 5-2. Despite that collapse, we still have faith in the Eagles this weekend.
Bournemouth won 1-0 at home against Fulham in Matchweek 32, but they were very lucky to pull off that result. The Cherries once again got lucky that the opposition did not convert their chances. Fulham created 1.4 xG, but failed to score. Overall, Andoni Iraola’s side have conceded 40 goals while allowing 48.7 post-shot expected goals. No team has a bigger gap between actual goals conceded and expected goals against.
Away from home, Bournemouth have been less fortunate and are actually conceding more goals than they should according to the xG.
The first meeting between these two was a 0-0 draw, but our EPL predictions expect to see goals here and a Palace win.
Crystal Palace vs. Bournemouth Prediction: 2-1
Predicted Lineups
Palace: Henderson; Guehi, Lacroix, Richards; Munoz, Wharton, Kamada, Mitchell; Sarr, Mateta, Eze
Bournemouth: Arrizabalaga; Smith, Zabarnyi, Huijsen, Kerkez; Cook, Adams; Semenyo, Scott, Ouattara; Evanilson
Everton vs. Manchester City
Goodison Park, 12:00 AM, Sunday, April 20
Everton continued to defy the odds last weekend with an impressive 0-1 win away at Nottingham Forest. Only four teams have picked up more points than Everton in the EPL since David Moyes took over in January. The Toffees have lost just twice in that stretch; Moyes’ first match back in charge and the Merseyside Derby at Anfield against Liverpool earlier this month.
Manchester City, on the other hand, have definitely not been one of the best teams in the EPL since January. Despite their struggles, the Sky Blues are on track to qualify for the Champions League this season, but the race is tight and they could easily fall out of contention if they slip up.
In our opinion, this is a match where we expect City to slip up. Beyond Everton’s strong form, we can’t look past the clash of styles here. The Toffees have conceded multiple goals just three times since Moyes returned to the club. They only lost one of those matches.
Everton vs. Manchester City Prediction: 1-1
Bookmaker | Tip | Odds |
Everton Goals Range - Between 1 & 2 Inclusive | $1.63 | |
UNDER 2.5 Goals | $2.02 | |
Everton To WIN or DRAW | $1.89 |
Predicted Lineups
Everton: Pickford; O’Brien, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Gueye, Garner; Harrison, Doucoure, Ndiaye; Beto
Man City: Ortega; Lewis, Dias, Gvardiol, O’Reilly; Kovacic, Gundogan; Silva, De Bruyne, Doku; Marmoush
West Ham vs. Southampton
London Stadium, 12:00 AM, Sunday, April 20
With apologies to Hammers fans reading this, West Ham are one of the most pointless teams in the EPL right now. They gave Liverpool a good fight in a 2-1 loss in Matchweek 32, but it’s hard to describe them as anything else but ‘on the beach.’
Graham Potter’s team have been out of contention for the European places since before the New Year. They’ve been safe from relegation for nearly as long. Barring an upset win against Arsenal, there hasn’t been an exciting moment for the Hammers since their four-match unbeaten streak in December.
We bring up all this to point out that Southampton are even worse. The Saints were shut out at home in Matchweek 32 in a 0-3 loss to Aston Villa. They have now conceded three goals in back-to-back matches and 3+ goals in six of their last eight EPL matches.
West Ham are bad, but they should win this match easily.
West Ham vs. Southampton Prediction: 2-0
Predicted Lineups
West Ham: Areola; Wan-Bissaka, Todibo, Kilman, Scarles; Alvarez; Ward-Prowse; Kudus, Soucek, Paqueta; Bowen
Southampton: Ramsdale; Harwood-Bellis, Bednarek, Stephens; Walker-Peters, Fernandes, Ugochukwu, Manning; Archer, Onuachu, Sulemana
Aston Villa vs. Newcastle
Villa Park, 2:30 AM, Sunday, April 20
Aston Villa failed to overturn their 3-1 deficit against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday. However, the Villans nearly pulled it off with a 3-2 win at Villa Park. They can hold their heads high after that performance and will come into this match on a high as a result.
Newcastle will similarly be coming into Saturday night’s match on a high after destroying Manchester United 4-1 at St James’ Park. It was the first time the Magpies had beaten Man Utd in three consecutive home matches in 55 years and the first league double over the Red Devils since 1931.
Eddie Howe’s team also got the job done against Villa at home earlier this season, winning 3-0 on Boxing Day. However, we expect to see more fight from the Villans this time around.
Aston Villa have lost just one home match this season and only nine times at Villa Park in the last three years.
Aston Villa vs. Newcastle Prediction: 2-1
Predicted Lineups
Villa: Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Mings, Maatsen; Onana, Tielemans; Rogers, Asensio, Rashford; Watkins
Newcastle: Pope; Trippier, Schar, Burn, Livramento, Guimaraes, Tonali, Joelinton; Murphy, Isak, Barnes
Fulham vs. Chelsea
Craven Cottage, 11:00 PM, Sunday, April 20
This match is the only London derby in Matchweek 33, and it could be one of the most consequential of the season so far.
A loss for Chelsea would be a huge blow to their chances of qualifying for next year’s Champions League. Fulham, meanwhile, could jump right back in the fight for Europa or Conference League qualification with a win this weekend.
Both teams come into this match following disappointing results in the league. Fulham lost 1-0 to Bournemouth, while Chelsea suffered a 2-2 draw at home to Ipswich. The Blues’ result is more indicative of what we expect to see this weekend.
Fulham were unlucky not to score in their loss, while Chelsea were lucky to salvage a draw. Without the home-ground advantage, we think Enzo Maresca’s side could lose this match. Chelsea have not won away from home in the EPL since December 8.
Fulham vs. Chelsea Prediction: 2-1
Predicted Lineups
Fulham: Leno; Castagne, Andersen, Bassey, Robinson; Lukic, Berge; Sessegnon, Pereira, Iwobi; Jimenez
Chelsea: Sanchez; Chalobah, Tosin, Colwill, Cucurella; Fernandez, Caicedo; Madueke, Palmer, Neto; Jackson
Ipswich Town vs. Arsenal
Portman Road, 11:00 PM, Sunday, April 20
Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Brentford in Matchweek 32 means that they could concede the title this weekend if they lose to Ipswich Town and Liverpool win their match against Leicester City. Thankfully for Gunners fans, we think they will get to keep the dream alive for another week.
Ipswich, despite looking impressive in a 2-2 draw with Chelsea last weekend, will find it very difficult to win this match. The Tractor Boys have just one home win in the EPL and have the second-worst goal difference at home this season.
However, just because they won’t win, doesn’t mean that Ipswich won’t make things difficult for Arsenal. The Gunners will likely put out a heavily rotated side after their Champions League fixture against Real Madrid and Ipswich have rarely lost by more than one goal since February.
Ipswich Town vs. Arsenal Prediction: 1-2
Predicted Lineups
Ipswich: Palmer; Tuanzebe, O’Shea, Burgess, Davis; Morsy, Cajuste; Johnson, Enciso, Clarke; Delap
Arsenal: Raya; White, Saliba, Kiwior, Tierney; Odegaard, Partey, Jorginho; Nwaneri, Trossard, Martinelli
Manchester United vs. Wolves
Old Trafford, 11:00 PM, Sunday, April 20
As we’ve said all season, Wolves are better than their record. Vítor Pereira’s team proved it in Matchweek 32 with a smothering 4-2 victory over Tottenham. The West Midlands club have now won four consecutive matches. They’ve lost just one of their last seven EPL matches since mid-February.
Manchester United, on the other hand, are probably better than their record looks. The Red Devils have only lost two of their last eight games in all competitions, but it’s hard to overstate how poor they’ve looked in the matches they didn’t win during that stretch. Ruben Amorim’s team were outclassed by Lyon in the Europa League and outmuscled in the EPL against Newcastle.
That last match was particularly concerning, as the Magpies seemingly cut through the Red Devils midfield and back-line like butter. Wolves have a good record against poor defences, especially if Matheus Cunha plays, so we like their chances of getting at least a draw here.
Manchester United vs. Wolves Prediction: 2-2
Predicted Lineups
Man Utd: Onana; Mazraoui, Lindelof, Yoro; Dalot, Ugarte, Eriksen; Amass; Garnacho, Hojlund, Fernandes
Wolves: Sa; Bueno, Agbadou, Toti; Semedo, J.Gomes, Andre, Ait-Nouri; Munetsi, Strand Larsen, Cunha
Leicester City vs. Liverpool
King Power Stadium, 1:30 AM, Monday, April 21
The soccer betting sites have this match down as the biggest mismatch of EPL Matchweek 33, and for good reason. Liverpool have taken their foot off the accelerator recently, but they should still be far too much for Leicester City to deal with.
The Foxes drew 2-2 against Brighton in Matchweek 32. This was frankly a bewildering result, but it makes a bit more sense considering that Leicester also drew with the Seagulls 2-2 in January. That match was the last time Ruud van Nistelrooy scored at home this season. They are the only team in English Football League history to lose eight home matches in a row without scoring.
We predict that Leicester will keep this unfortunate streak going and lose again at home without scoring.
Leicester City vs. Liverpool Prediction: 0-3
Predicted Lineups
Leicester: Hermansen; Justin, Coady, Thomas; Thomas, Ndidi, Soumare; De Cordova-Reid, El Khannouss, Mavididi; Vardy
Liverpool: Alisson; Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Diaz; Jota
Tottenham vs. Nottingham Forest
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, 5:00 AM, Tuesday, April 22
Tottenham are 15th in the table following their 4-2 loss to Wolves in Matchweek 32. That result was their third loss in four Premier League games. They have now lost as many matches at home this season (7) as they did in Mauricio Pochettino’s final two and a half seasons in charge of the club.
Before this bad run, the consensus was that Ange Postecoglou would keep his job if Spurs won the Europa League. That might not even be enough to save him now.
Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, are precariously holding onto their spot in the top five after losing two straight EPL matches. There’s now just a three-point gap between them and sixth place.
Given the stakes, and the fact that Tottenham will likely field a weakened side after their match against Eintracht Frankfurt, we fancy Forest’s chances of winning this match.
Tottenham vs. Nottingham Forest Prediction: 1-0
