EPL 2024/25 Matchweek 29

Premier League Matchweek 29 features a great slate of games that could have a huge impact on the EPL table. The leaders, Liverpool, won’t play in the league because of their EFL Cup final match against Newcastle, but pretty much every other game has huge stakes.

Get ready for Man City vs. Brighton, Arsenal vs. Chelsea, and every other big matchup with our EPL predictions and betting tips for every match below.

Matchweek 29 Fixtures

Everton vs. West Ham

Tip

Goodison Park, 2:00 AM, Sunday, March 16

After rattling off a series of wins after David Moyes rejoined the club, Everton are now in a bit of a slump. The Toffees have drawn four of their last five and have won just one of their last six matches. They drew 1-1 with Wolves last weekend.

West Ham, meanwhile, lost 1-0 to Newcastle on Monday. The Hammers have lost three of their last five. However, Graham Potter has seemed to have settled on a starting lineup he likes, which could help his side against Everton this weekend.

The Hammers won this fixture 3-1 last season and drew 0-0 with the Toffees back in November. Everton have not kept a clean sheet in six matches, so 0-0 probably won’t happen again. We can’t see West Ham winning again either.

Potter’s team have lost just once away from home since the former Brighton man took over from Julen Lopetegui. They have not scored multiple goals away from home since November.

Ipswich Town vs. Nottingham Forest

Tip

Portman Road, 2:00 AM, Sunday, March 16

Nottingham Forest beat Man City 1-0 last weekend. That match was the first win for Reds against City in 30 years. The result also keeps Nuno Espírito Santo’s side in third place.

Ipswich Town suffered a 1-0 defeat away to Crystal Palace. With just ten matches left, the Tractor Boys need a lot of luck to get out of the relegation zone before the end of the season. We can’t seen them getting lucky here.

While Ipswich took Forest to penalties in the FA Cup, the league is a different story. Ipswich has scored just 10 goals at home this season. Forest have the fourth-best defence in the league according to goals allowed and expected goals allowed.

It won’t be a pretty game, but Forest should win.

Manchester City vs. Brighton

Tip

Etihad Stadium, 2:00 AM, Sunday, March 16

Brighton have never beaten Manchester City at the Etihad. According to our EPL predictions, the Seagulls will have to wait at least another season to win away in Manchester.

Fabian Hurzeler’s side beat City 2-1 earlier this year, but the advanced numbers show that it probably should have been a draw or even a win for city. Pep Guardiola’s side created 2.98 expected goals in that match.

Brighton have been very leaky away from home this season. They have conceded the sixth most goals against this season. The Seagulls have already played four of the current top five away from home this season. They 2.84 expected goals on average in those matches. For context, Ipswich has conceded the most expected goals in the EPL this season away from home. They allow only 2.27xg per 90 minutes in away matches.

Man City aren’t at their best right now, but they have quality attackers who can cause Brighton problems. They were lucky not to win last time, and should do well this weekend.

Manchester City vs. Brighton Prediction: 3-1

Southampton vs. Wolves

Tip

St. Mary's Stadium, 2:00 AM, Sunday, March 16

Wolves drew 1-1 with Everton at home last weekend. They dominated possession in that match and probably should’ve done better, but Wolves fans can’t complain too much. Their club is on the up-and-up and they are probably safe from relegation.

The Wanderers have won four of their 12 matches under new manager Vitor Pereira. That’s twice as many wins as they picked up in their 16 matches with Gary O’Neil in charge to start the season.

Southampton, meanwhile, are just as bad under Ivan Juric as they were under Russell Martin. The Saints have won just two matches this season and have not kept a clean sheet in 9 matches. It’s worse than not just keeping clean sheets. Southampton have conceded 3+ goals in 9 of their last 10 Premier League fixtures.

This should be a convincing win for Wolves.

Bournemouth vs. Brentford

Tip

Vitality Stadium, 4:30 AM, Sunday, March 16

After starting the season with the best home record in the Premier League, Brentford’s form has fallen off a cliff. The Bees suffered a defeat at home last weekend and have now lost eight home matches without a win in all competitions. We say all this to point out that they might actually be better away from home this weekend, especially considering Bournemouth’s own poor home record.

Overall, the Cherries have a mid-table record at home. However, their attack is significantly worse at the Vitality Stadium than away from home. Andoni Iraola’s side have scored just 17 goals at home this season. Only Leicester, Ipswich, and Southampton have scored fewer.

Additionally, Bournemouth have a poor record as favourites recently. The underdog has won in four of the last six matches involving the Cherries.

Bournemouth’s press could see them win, but our EPL predictions have Brentford getting at least a draw here.

Arsenal vs. Chelsea

Tip

Emirates Stadium, 12:30 AM, Monday, March 17

After battering PSV 7-0 in the Champions League, Arsenal could only manage a 1-1 draw against Manchester United. We were surprised by this result. However, with hindsight, Man Utd are a perfect team to beat Arsenal. They sit in and counter, so of course they were going to give them trouble. We don’t think Chelsea will do the same.

Enzo Maresca’s Blues dominate the ball and dictate tempo. This has actually been to their determinant recently. Chelsea have scored multiple goals away from home in the Premier League just once since December 8. It’s been all “possession without penetration” as commentator Ray Hudson would put it.

If Chelsea come out looking to play their game against Arsenal, they will lose.

Fulham vs. Tottenham Hotspur

Tip

Craven Cottage, 12:30 AM, Monday, March 17

Fulham fell 2-1 to Brighton after conceding a penalty in added time to the Seagulls at the Amex. Tottenham, meanwhile, mounted a comeback against Bournemouth after going down 2-0. They scrapped out a 2-2 draw and arguably could’ve won that match.

The biggest takeaway from these fixtures is definitely on the Tottenham side. Spurs’s backline was supposed to be better with Cristian Romero returning to the starting lineup. However, it was the opposite. They gave away chances in their own half and made things easy for Bournemouth.

Fulham have a lot of the same qualities as the Cherries. They know how to press high and their midfield is very aggressive. They could easily take all three points here. It’s not just us saying this. The betting sites have made the Cottagers the favourite here.

We like to back underdogs, but we agree with the soccer betting odds this time.

Leicester City vs. Manchester United

Tip

King Power Stadium, 6:00 AM, Monday, March 17

Manchester United stunned Arsenal last weekend to earn a 1-1 draw. The Red Devils did this by playing like a relegation side. Ruben Amorim’s team sat back and looked to counter. They won’t be able to do that again this week against Leicester City.

The Foxes have been one of the most conservative teams in the Premier League since Ruud van Nistelrooy took over in November. Flair players like Facundo Buonanotte and Stephy Mavididi have been benched for proven pros like Jordan Ayew and Bobby De Cordova-Reid.

This tactic has not paid off for Leicester so far. They have lost 12 of their 14 matches under Van Nistelrooy and have already lost twice to Man Utd this season. Amorim’s side should win this match.
