Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr are reportedly very interested in signing Manchester United defensive midfielder Casemiro. According to the Manchester Evening News, the nine-time league champions have “accelerated their interest” in the Brazilian and “entered talks” with him this week.
Casemiro is one of many players Man Utd are looking to offload this summer on the back of their disastrous 2023/24 campaign where they look set to finish outside of the European spots for the first time since the 2013/14 season.
Man Utd to receive a record-breaking transfer fee
Manchester United’s current record incoming transfer fee was set in 2016 when the Red Devils sold Morgan Schneiderlin to Everton for £24 million. Reportedly, Al-Nassr are set to exceed that record by a big margin.
The Knights of Najd are willing to spend up to £34m to sign Casemiro this offseason. If signed, this would blow the current Man Utd record fee out of the water. It would also reunite Casemiro with a former Real Madrid teammate.
Al-Nassr is Manchester United and Real Madrid legend Cristiano Ronaldo’s current club. The Portuguese superstar reportedly earns £3.3 million per week. That comes out to just over $6.2 million AUD every week.
Former Liverpool winger Sadio Mané, Spain defender Aymeric Laporte, former Porto winger Otavio, and Brazilians Alex Telles and Talisca also play for Al-Nassr.
FFP blessing for Man Utd
If Manchester United miss out on Europe, as they are expected to by the betting site, their ability to spend this offseason will be even more limited.
If they sell no players, Man Utd will have to keep their net spend under £100 million to avoid violating UEFA’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) and the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) rules.
Selling Casemiro could give the Red Devils some much needed breathing room, especially if they sell him for such a big fee.
Most reports claim the Brazilian midfielder makes between £350,000 and £450,000 per week. This makes him one of the club’s highest paid players. His wages could be used to pay the wages of at least two new players. His £34 million transfer fee could also be immediately reinvested into the squad.
Casemiro is just one of many names who would be leaving the club this offseason. Man Utd have reportedly said everyone at the club is for sale, except for Rasmus Hojlund, Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho, and Andre Onana.
As for incomings, Man Utd have been linked to every player under the sun. It’s far too early to say who they will sell and sign. All we know now is that this offseason could be one of the most exciting in history for Man Utd fans.
